Alloy: A mixture of metals. In jewellery, pure gold is combined with other metals such as silver or copper to improve strength and durability.

BIS Hallmark: A certification issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards that verifies the purity of gold jewellery in India.

Brilliance: The brightness and sparkle of a diamond created by light reflecting from the surface and internal facets.

Carat: The unit used to measure the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 200 milligrams.

Clarity: A measure of the natural internal or external characteristics found in a diamond.

Colour: A grading scale used to measure how colourless a diamond appears.

Cut: The way a diamond has been shaped and polished. A well-cut diamond reflects light better and appears more brilliant.

Diamond: A naturally occurring gemstone formed under high pressure and temperature deep within the earth.

Diamond Certification: A grading report issued by a gemological laboratory that describes the characteristics and quality of a diamond.

Facet: A flat polished surface on a diamond that reflects light.

Fire: The rainbow-like flashes of colour seen when light passes through a diamond.

Fluorescence: A natural property where a diamond emits a soft glow when exposed to ultraviolet light.

GIA: The Gemological Institute of America, one of the most respected diamond grading laboratories in the world.

IGI: The International Gemological Institute, a globally recognized diamond certification authority.

HRD: HRD Antwerp, a European diamond grading laboratory known for strict evaluation standards.

SGL: Solitaire Gemological Laboratories, a diamond certification and grading laboratory.

Inclusion: Internal characteristics or marks naturally present inside a diamond.

Jewellery Setting: The method used to hold a diamond or gemstone securely in place within a piece of jewellery.

Karat: A measurement used to indicate the purity of gold.

24K Gold: Pure gold containing nearly 100 percent gold content.

22K Gold: Gold containing approximately 91.6 percent pure gold.

18K Gold: Gold containing 75 percent pure gold combined with other metals.

14K Gold: Gold containing around 58 percent pure gold.

Lustre: The way light reflects from the surface of a polished metal or gemstone.

Pavé Setting: A setting style where small diamonds are placed closely together to create a continuous sparkle.

Prong Setting: A setting style where small metal claws hold the diamond securely.

Solitaire: A jewellery design featuring a single prominent diamond.

Polish: The smoothness and finishing quality of a diamond’s surface.

Symmetry: How precisely the facets of a diamond are aligned.

Setting: The structure used to hold a diamond or gemstone within jewellery.

Hallmark: An official mark stamped on gold jewellery indicating its purity certification.

Mount: The metal framework in which diamonds or gemstones are set.

Pendant: A decorative piece of jewellery designed to hang from a chain.

Carat Weight: The measurement used to determine the size and weight of a diamond.

Jewellery Craftsmanship: The skill and precision involved in designing and manufacturing jewellery.
